Continuous Professional Learning

Background

Starting in 2007, obtaining yearly continuous professional learning (CPL) learning units became a requirement for maintaining member status with CIP and API.

Tracking your CPL Activities

All CPL tracking is done through the Members Only section of the CIP website. Members' numbers and passwords can be found on the yearly invoice sent out by CIP or by contacting CIP directly.

Once logged into the Members Only section, the CPL Reporting Form link is located under your name on the left sidebar.  CPL activities can then be entered under the Forms section via the Organized/Structured LUs link or the Individual/Unstructured LUs link.

Learning Units required annually:

9 Organized & Structured minimum

9 Individually Directed maximum

18 TOTAL

  • All 18 (or more) Learning Units to be obtained can be Organized & Structured.

  • Learning Units cannot be carried over to the next year.

  • Activities that form part of your daily duties or which represent work for which you are paid cannot be claimed towards CPL. For more details, contact your provincial Committee member.

  • Students and non-practicing members are exempt from the CPL requirements.

When completing the form in the Organized/Structure LUs section, registered CIP or affiliate events are listed in separate drop down menus.

Guide

A guide has been prepared to provide more information on how the Continuous Professional Learning program will work. This guide outlines the types of activities for which you can claim LUs and provides information on the process involved.

Process

  • Standard CPL activities are listed in a drop-down menu on the tracking page

  • Qualifying additional activities will be allocated learning units by the Committee

  • To determine the CPL units for activities, contact the Committee member located in your province

  • If you are organizing an activity that will qualify for CPL units, contact the Committee member in your province prior to holding the event. Event organizers are encouraged to include CPL credit information in their event promotion

Committee

A committee made up of representatives from each of the four provinces has been formed to oversee the development of the program, as well as assist in the assessment of potential CPL activities. Committee members are:
