- public and civic life expressed in:
- public realm
- streets
- squares, parks and other open spaces
- public buildings
- key 1950's moves that affected established urban fabric:
- slum clearance to redevelop land and increase tax base
- desire to move traffic through CBD
- both were detrimental to:
- basic structure of city
- quality of public space
