Urban Structure Study - Analysis II
Functional analysis:
- original strong city core with link to waterfront, north and south ends
- today have diminished core with little harbour connection
- many barriers to passage through core
- largely vacant waterfront
- many single purpose areas with weak interrelationships
Land subdivision:
- pre-1960 pattern was many small lots and individual businesses
- today's pattern is amalgamated blocks and consolidated lots, eliminating cross streets
- has destroyed human scale, reduced permeability, variety and pedestrian comfort, visual qualities
- traffic has been intensified with fewer streets
- fewer views of harbour and Citadel Hill
