Student-Practitioner Mentorship Program

API and the Dalhousie School of Planning have developed a
student-practitioner Mentorship Program whereby practitioners are encouraged to share their professional experience with eager and upcoming planners and to discuss the planning profession on an informal basis.

Dalhousie Accreditation

On June 16, 2006, CIP Council reviewed the recognition report for the Dalhousie School of Planning and voted to grant recognition for the following programs at the Dalhousie University School of Planning:

  • Master of Planning 2003-2011
  • Master of Engineering/Master of Planning 2003-2011
  • Master of Applied Science/Master of Planning 2003-2011
  • Bachelor of Community Design Honours, Major in Environmental Planning 2004-2011
  • Bachelor of Community Design Honours, Major in Urban Design Studies 2004-2011

CIP also extended recognition of the following programs for the periods indicated. These programs will be phased out as candidates complete their studies:

  • Bachelor of Design, Honours, Major in Environmental Planning – NSCAD, 1978-2004
  • Master of Urban and Rural Planning – Dalhousie, 1981-2011
  • Master of Engineering/Master of Urban and Rural Planning – Dalhousie, 1981-2011
  • Master of Applied Science/Master of Urban and Rural Planning – Dalhousie, 1981-2011.

The last review for the Dalhousie School of Planning took place in 2000.


  • Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (NSCAD)

Current status  

In 2001, NSCAD and Dalhousie merged their planning programs. Since that time, existing students have continued to work on their NSCAD degrees at Dalhousie. Recently, the program offering was modified and the degrees offered to new students are listed above.
