Fraser, Philip "A Comparison of the Subdivision Approval Processes in Metropolitan Halifax"

Complex regulatory and subdivision approval processes are currently in place in the Metropolitan Halifax Area. Investigation into the approval processes was prompted by claims from local developers that the systems were excessive, lengthy, and varied between, municipalities. The subdivision approval processes of the four municipalities that make up Metropolitan Halifax are examined by. outlining the existing controls and providing a comparative analysis of the processes.

This study revealed that the subdivision approval processes for the four municipalities vary little in terms of control, number of stages, and information required. Also it is clear that different site planning standards exist between municipalities but the differences are not substantial.
