Hartling, Pamela E., "Merging Environmental and Community Planning to Reflect an Environmental Ethic"
This thesis argues that there is opportunity for municipal planning to play a larger role in addressing environmental concerns, and in shaping the cultural and social attitudes toward a stronger environmental ethic than it currently plays. This directs the research to answer three questions: first, what factors influence social attitudes toward land and the environment, and how do these attitudes impact the role of the planner. Second, how effectively does the municipal planning process in Nova Scotia address environmental issues. Third, what opportunities are there for change or innovation. Finally, an analysis of these findings will inform the development of an action plan designed to promote better environmental protection.
